Lily Collins: A Name is Just a Name

Being the daughter of Phil Collins doesn’t always get Lily Collins whatever she wants, and she’s quick to state that.
The 21-year-old actress shared with Teen Vogue, “In the end, a name is just a name. It can get you through the door, but you need something to back it up.”
Lily added about her Abduction costar Taylor Lautner, “Taylor is so down-to-earth. He signs autographs at 5:30 a.m. for fans who’ve been waiting ten hours.”

Taking you back two years in time

Film: The Blind Side Cast: Sandar Bullock, Tim McGRaw, Quinton Aaron, Kathy Bates, Lily Collins, Ray Mckinnon, Brett Rice, John Newberry.

Writer and Director: John Lee Hancock.

Based on the book: The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis.

Cinema: Eastgate and Rainbow town

Running time: 125 minutes

Movies By Prof Joel White

The film "The Blind Side" arrives in Harare accompanied by the highest recommendation and merits every word of praise, which has been heaped on it.

The Tuoly family: mother Leigh-Ann (Sandra Bullock), father Sean (Tim Mcgraw) and high school daughter Collins, and second grade son Sean, Jr Were (and are) a real family living in the deep American south, the State of Tennessee.

The film itself was nominated for a Best Film Academy Award, as was Sandra Bullock for Best Actress; truly deservedly so.

Talk all around Hollywood, at Oscar time, surprisingly described the film as indistinguishable from a dozen other sports inspirationals.

I disagree as did millions of Americans who gave it a boffo box office take.

To their discredit in my opinion the tabloids uniformly referred to this film as having no chance of winning the many awards it did.

Deservedly so, in my opinion.

We are never told what it is that Mr or Mrs Tuoly does for the high level living that they enjoy.

They are presented to us as an ideal of what a family can hope to be.

The film then goes off into the changed direction story when, by sheer accident, they stumble across a huge, black, 17-year-old street kid.

This in violation of every norm of the American south.

Ungainly, uneducated and uncouth at least from every initial surface manifestation Big Mike, as he does not like to be called, leads his family by a bizarre course of events on a future which could never be presented in a film except that this is a documented true story.

It is regrettable but true that in many places in America members of the two races live apart as if in separate countries. And we see some of this here.

Also regrettable from my point of view is the emphasis and many minutes of film devoted to the American game of football.

But I have long since come to accept that I am currently out of synch with my fellow Americans taste in this.

For those filmgoers eager to learn more about the game, this film will have this additional benefit.

And now a well deserved word about Sandra Bullock. Born in the southern state of Virginia 46 years ago, she has preserved her beauty and youthfulness while at the same time increased her stature as a convincing actress.

In neither her looks nor her ability does she take second place to any of the Hollywood Glamour pusses.
